The No. 4 Washington University in St. Louis women’s soccer team will host 2012 NCAA Division III First and Second Round action Saturday-Sunday, Nov. 10-11, at Francis Field in St. Louis.
Washington University and Transylvania University will square off in first-round action at 11 a.m. Saturday, while No. 14 Augustana College (Ill.) will take on Thomas More College in the second game at 1:30 p.m. The winners of Saturday’s games will meet at 1:30 p.m. Sunday for a berth into the Sectional Semifinals.
Ticket prices are $6 for adults and $3 for students. Washington University undergraduate students with an ID will be admitted free courtesy of Student Union. The box office will open each day one hour prior to kickoff.
WUSTL (16-1-1) won its eighth University Athletic Association (UAA) championship to earn the league’s automatic bid. The Bears are making their seventh-consecutive and 12th overall appearance in the NCAA Division III Tournament. WUSTL has a 19-10-5 (.632) overall record in NCAA Tournament play with a pair of Final Four appearances in 1997 and 2009.
Transylvania (11-5-3) earned an automatic bid to the NCAA Championship after coming off back-to-back penalty kick victories over Hanover College and Earlham College in the Heartland Conference Tournament. Transy is 0-3 all-time in the NCAA Tournament with appearances in 2006, 2009 and 2010.
Augustana (16-4) received an at-large bid after falling to No. 22 Wheaton College 2-0 in the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin title game Nov. 3. The Vikings are making their third-straight and fifth overall NCAA appearance, boasting an all-time mark of 3-3-1 (.500).
Thomas More (19-1-1) earned an automatic berth into the 64-team championship after winning the Presidents’ Athletic Conference regular season and tournament championships. The Saints are looking for their first win in the NCAA Tournament in their second-consecutive trip and third overall.
