Macones, Peipert named deputy editors of American Journal of Obstetrics & Gynecology

George A. Macones, MD, the Mitchell and Elaine Yanow Professor and head of Obstetrics and Gynecology, and Jeffrey F. Peipert, MD, the Robert J. Terry Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology, have been named deputy editors of the American Journal of Obstetrics & Gynecology.

Macones is a specialist in maternal-fetal medicine, with expertise in managing medically complicated pregnancies and those at risk for preterm birth. He is internationally renowned for his research on the safety of vaginal birth after cesarean (VBAC) and has published new guidelines on monitoring fetuses during labor.

Peipert, an expert in family planning and in infectious diseases, is vice chair of clinical research for the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology. He studies behavioral interventions to prevent sexually transmitted diseases (STDs) and unplanned pregnancies. Peipert recently led a study that determined that free birth control dramatically reduced abortions and unplanned pregnancies.
