Peters to receive Spirit of St. Louis Medal

David A. Peters, PhD, McDonnell Douglas Professor of
Engineering in the School of Engineering & Applied Science, has been
selected to

Peters

receive the 2013 Spirit of St. Louis Medal from the
American Society of Mechanical Engineers for his service in the
advancement of aeronautics and astronautics.

The award is given annually to one individual who has shown “outstanding foundational contributions to the development of accurate and tractable models that underlie the design and safety of helicopters, and the computational implementation of these algorithms in flight simulators used worldwide; and for fundamental contributions to modern helicopter design.”

Peters will receive the award Nov. 18 at the ASME Mechanical Engineering Congress & Exposition in San Diego.
