The 2023 Day of Dialogue and Action event takes place April 27 at Emerson Auditorium in Knight Hall on the Danforth Campus. All WashU faculty, staff and students are welcome.

A new research project at Washington University will study the history of Chinese Americans and Japanese Americans in St. Louis. The project, “Asia in St. Louis: A Story Map Dedicated to the Greater Saint Louis Community,” won a $10,000 grant from the Missouri Humanities council.

Five sophomores have been selected for the next cohort of the Mellon Mays Undergraduate Fellowship program, which is celebrating 30 years at Washington University in St. Louis. 

Chalana M. Scales-Ferguson has been named the associate vice chancellor of institutional equity, announced Scot Bemis, vice chancellor for human resources and institutional equity. Her appointment is effective March 20.

The 17th annual African Film Festival at Washington University invites St. Louisans to see Africa’s most acclaimed films on the big screen. This year’s showcase, to be held March 24-26, includes six films and a youth matinee. 

Washington University in St. Louis, through its race and ethnicity cluster hire initiative, has hired eight new faculty members for the fall 2023 semester in continued efforts to build a world-class program on race.

Harvey Fields, associate dean for diversity, equity and inclusion at Washington University in St. Louis, has been named the inaugural dean of the College of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics at Harris-Stowe State University.

Samulnori, a genre of traditional Korean percussion music, is among the many acts to perform at the annual Lunar New Year celebration, which will run Feb. 3-4 at Edison Theatre.

The Washington University community is invited to nominate students for the 2023 James E. McLeod Honors and Awards Program. The nomination deadline is Feb. 28.

Kris Campa is the first graduate of the John B. Ervin Scholars Program to lead it. He mentors students in his capacity as Ervin director and while teaching creative writing in University College.
