A section of Throop Drive that runs in front of the Knight Center and Eliot Hall will close for construction beginning Thursday, Dec. 22. That stretch of Throop Drive will reopen Tuesday, Jan. 17.

Also closing Dec. 22 are three levels of Millbrook Garage’s southwest section that face the Knight Center and Eliot Hall. The three levels are slated for demolition and will not reopen.

Both closings are in preparation for the construction of two new buildings for Olin Business School, says Frank Freeman, project manager in facilities. Once construction of the buildings is complete, the former garage area will become an open pedestrian plaza.

After the demolition, which affects approximately 99 parking spaces on the southwest corner of Millbrook Garage, approximately 1,000 spots will remain in the garage.

“Even with the reduction in spaces in Millbrook Garage, we believe there will still be enough parking spots available on most days for the university community and guests,” says Nicholas Stoff, director of Parking & Transportation Services. “We will continue to evaluate the availability of parking throughout construction and after this project’s completion.”

While the section of Throop is closed, vehicle access will be blocked, although passenger vehicles less than 7 feet tall can detour through the garage. Signs will be posted to direct pedestrians around the work.
