Varsity basketball ‘Staff & Faculty Day’ Saturday, Jan. 7

Family-friendly event includes food specials, fun contests

Faculty and staff will have a unique opportunity to see the Bears in action Saturday, Jan. 7.

Staff and faculty are invited to the women’s and men’s basketball games Saturday, Jan. 7, as the teams battle the University of Chicago.

A number of special offerings — including $1 food specials for those who RSVP — will be included during this family-friendly afternoon of University Athletic Association basketball in the Athletic Complex.

The women’s game begins at 1 p.m. and the men’s game begins at 3 p.m. Admission to both games is free.

Food specials for $1 per person are available from 1:30-3:30 p.m. for those who RSVP at getinvolved.wustl.edu/Pages/Dollar-Meal-Deal.aspx. Partners, significant others and immediate family members are welcome. This special is limited to the first 400 fans.

During the halftime of each game, there also will be fun competitions for children, as well as faculty and staff.

Helping the homeless

Volunteers at the game also will be collecting money and gently used items to help the homeless this winter.

The Washington University Community Service Office has partnered with St. Louis Winter Outreach, an all-volunteer force that seeks out and shuttles homeless individuals to emergency shelters when temperatures dip below 21 degrees.

An estimated 400 heavy winter coats (large sizes are best), 2,000 pairs of socks, 2,000 blankets/sleeping bags, 300 hats and 400 pairs of gloves will be needed this winter.
