Kulkarni receives excellence award, grants

Shashikant Kulkarni, PhD, associate professor of pathology and immunology, of pediatrics and of genetics at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis, and medical director of cytogenomics and molecular pathology within the university’s Genomics and Pathology Services, has received an award from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services’ Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry for excellence in partnering in “Next Generation Sequencing — Standardization of Clinical Testing.”

Kulkarni also has received a three-year, $80,000 grant with the University of North Carolina from the National Institutes of Health (NIH) for research titled “ClinGen Clinical Genomics Resource — A Knowledge Base for Clinically Relevant Genes and Variants”; and a $39,500 grant from Illumina for research titled “Clinical Accuracy Evaluation of HiSeq DX Aneuploidy Assay for Non-invasive Prenatal Testing (NIPT).”
