Duncan Avenue reopening delayed

Construction to upgrade a Metropolitan Sewer District (MSD) storm-sewer line on Duncan Avenue west of Newstead Avenue has been delayed. The project led to the closure of the north entrance to the St. Louis Children’s Hospital (SLCH) staff garage. A completion date has not been determined.

Beginning June 4 and through late June, the crane used to build the new staff parking garage on the Duncan-Taylor Avenue surface lot will block the eastbound lane of Duncan while contractors place the concrete pieces in the northernmost section of the garage. Once the crane is removed, the final sections of the MSD storm sewer will be replaced and extended into the new garage.

Contractors will direct the flow of traffic around the crane, and public safety officers will continue to monitor traffic flow on the Medical Campus. Access to the dock at the 4444 Forest Park Building and the Rehabilitation Institute of St. Louis will be maintained.

Upon completion of the MSD work on Duncan, the SLCH garage entrance and exit on Duncan will reopen and the east entrance to the SLCH garage from Newstead will close while the road is reconfigured.

The new staff garage will open in August, along with improvements to intersections on campus. The garage and intersection work are designed to improve the flow of traffic for staff, especially during peak times.

Updates will be shared as the garage opening approaches.
