Women’s Society seeking nominations for Harriet K. Switzer Leadership Award

The Women’s Society of Washington University (WSWU) is seeking nominations for the Harriet K. Switzer Leadership Award.

The WSWU presents this award annually to one or more graduating seniors, recognizing young women who have made a significant contribution to the university during their undergraduate years and have demonstrated exceptional potential for future leadership.

Recipients are selected according to the following criteria:

  • Full-time senior woman student
  • Minimum GPA of 3.25
  • Recognized leadership and exceptional potential for future leadership
  • Record of demonstrated service to others
  • Noted excellence in a chosen pursuit which has contributed significantly to the Washington University community, e.g.,
    • A co-curricular or community service activity
    • A new project or program
    • An original piece of work

Nominations are solicited from administrators, deans, academic advisors, faculty, staff and student leaders. Students may nominate themselves or others. Two references for all nominees are required.

Since its founding in 1965, the WSWU has brought
together women in the St. Louis community to participate in on-campus
educational, leadership, and service opportunities. This award is in
keeping with the WSWU’s mission to foster leadership, and provides a
$500 cash award and recognition at WSWU’s annual membership meeting in
April.

Deadline for nominations is Friday, Feb. 10. The nomination form is available electronically at womenssociety.wustl.edu and should be returned to the WSWU Office at Campus Box 1081 or emailed to sharon_britt@wustl.edu.

The award was named for Harriet K. Switzer, PhD, upon her
retirement as secretary to the Board of Trustees and university coordinator of the WSWU.
