SEEDs leaders chosen to attend ecology conference

Washington University in St. Louis sophomores Sam Ko and Dev Mukundan earned full scholarships to attend the SEEDS Leadership Meeting this month at the Arizona Institute for Resilient Environments & Societies at the University of Arizona.

Ko and Mukundan, both students in Arts & Sciences, lead the St. Louis chapter of the Ecological Society of America SEEDS (Strategies for Ecology Education, Diversity and Sustainability) program, a mentoring and education initiative that introduces underrepresented college students to careers in ecology.

This year’s leadership meeting focused on resiliency in both societies and the environment. Student leaders participated in career panels and communication workshops and completed field work with saguaros, a tree-like cactus species that grows in the Arizona desert.
